Retired New York City Police Officer Dies after Upstate Car Crash

A retired police officer caused a three car accident in New York in early May and was the lone fatality in the accident as well. The three car accident occurred on Route 22 in upstate New York near Danby Lane. One of the drivers died from his injuries and two other drivers were seriously injured, suffering traumatic brain damage as a result of the severe collision. The accident occurred when Richard Grasso, a retired New York Police Department officer, collided head on with a vehicle driven by 37 year old Lisbeth Hodge of Pawling. Grasso was driving a Honda CRV. Grasso’s car then hit another vehicle after colliding with Hodge’s vehicle. The third vehicle involved in the crash was being driven by 28 year old Armando Gonzalez of Wingdale. Both Gonzalez and Hodge suffered traumatic brain damage as a result of the accident.

Danbury Hospital is where Gonzalez and Hodge were transported to with their traumatic brain injuries. Detectives and other emergency personnel have said that the roads were slippery at the time of the accident and that fog was also present in the area, which could have been a cause of the accident but the official cause still remains under investigation.
